Unfortunately, I looked at the reviews AFTER we were there. I totally agree with the previous comments. I ordered broiled shrimp $19.95. There was a good amount, but overcooked & bland. Added broiled scallops for $6.95...again, bland. I had a salad instead of slaw, $1.50 extra. Tasteless...bagged lettuce, 2 slices of tomato, 1 slice of cucumber, bottled ranch. The view was nice though. My husband had New York Strip...didn't complain. I don't like hush puppies, so they didn't matter. However, it does state on the menu that only the first basket is free.

I do not normally give out 1 star reviews, but I have to say - Nance's REALLY disappointed us. We went on the recommendation of a well-intentioned friend, who informed us upon arriving that their cheeseburger "is one of the best he's had." The complimentary hush puppies are good, but not great. The service was really slow. And the beer they delivered to us was actually pretty flat. Two of us got the seafood platters - one fried, one broiled. They were pretty tasteless. The stuffed fish one of us got was really not that great. I could not believe that we spent $70 for the two us on what is probably one of the worst meals I've ever eaten. I really wanted to like this spot - but it was pretty awful. Maybe their fresh seafood is better, but I honestly don't think we'll be back.

Just not impressed with the fried seafood platter,as other reviewers stated pretty tasteless. It was also a little pricey based on portions as well.I went because the group I was with just raved about this place. Uh not sure why, guess it dont take much to rev up their taste buds. As for me I cant wait to go to Mr. Fish's place.

Nice view and cheap drinks (even after happy hour). $4 drinks with house liquor! But of a wait. Crabcakes are heavily breaded and fried, but the fried shrimp (says popcorn on menu but is bigger sized shrimp) is the way to go! Delicious homemade cocktail sauce and honey butter--a must!! Service was a bit slow, but wait staff was very friendly! A bit of a wait, but there is a bar you can wait at.

My husband and I decided to come here for their earlybird specials. While the dinners were nothing special--breaded shrimp, clam strips, French fries, baked potato, Cole slaw--everything was tasty and served up in a friendly and timely manner. The atmosphere is very dated but the view of the inlet marsh is enjoyable.

Restaurant is under staffed. Hostess was pressed into delivering drinks and running food. By the time our food arrived, my wife's broiled fish was room temperature. Fish was fresh and prepared ok but side dishes were low-end cafeteria grade. Good place to eat oysters and drink beer, I guess, if you don't mind waiting for you food.

I can't believe I've never Yelp'd about Nance's! I've been going to Nance's since the late 70's when I was finishing up high school. A friend of mine suggested we go and eat seafood -- apparently their family has been going to Nance's since before then. That was my first love with steamed oysters! The decor hasn't changed much at all since then. Nance's has always had tables with the holes on top, bucket on the bottom. Their parking lot has always been dusty and unpaved. At the table: Salt, pepper, check. Sweet n'low, check. Paper Towels, check. Bucket, check. Here comes the steamer bucket! For me, the Oysters, the half order, is just plenty enough for me. There is a method to all of this madness: Stacking! Shuck oyster with the tools provided to you on a tray--not in your hand, unless you are a professional! Pull out steamed little oyster. Dip oyster in coctail sauce and drawn butter. Plop on top of a saltine cracker. Pop in mouth! For the entire bucket! Don't forget the sides~~slaw, hushpuppies, fries....these always get overlooked. But I've never come here to Nance's for the sides. Don't think this is the place to 'like' the house salad either. After all, its just a plain bowl of lettuce with a few skimmings of carrots and tomatoes with dressing plopped on top. Nance's is not known for its salads. No, Nance's is known for its Steamed Oysters and Steamed seafood buckets!!! So even though the military has taken us far away, we've always come to feast on a bucket of steamed oysters every time we stop back in to town. Thank you, Nance's! You've kept your tradition of serving steamed oysters and seafood in large buckets and have made us 'work' for that succulent little steamed oyster meat over the past 30 years or so. See you next time we're in the area!

Food was not really up to the par of other local seafood eateries. My shrimp was rubbery and flounders brick like and cold. The she-crab tasted as if it were dispensed from a can. Overall for the price I cannot recommend this location. As others have said this eatery just isn't up to standards. Maybe at 1/2 the price, nah then again they probably can't get to McDonald's fish sandwich level pricing which is the quality they are putting on the table.

Our family enjoyed the atmosphere and food. We came in for the early bird special and got a window side table. What an excellent view of the water! The oysters were fried just right (notable after experiencing over cooked food at other places this past week). This place has some of the best hushpuppies and honey butter that I have ever had anywhere. I highly recommend coming in for the early bird special.

This could quite possibly be the worst dining experience I've had in years. Soggy tasteless food. Typically fried fish is hard to mess up, but Nances found a way to do it. Only redeeming quality was the spectacular sunset view.

When on vacation in Pawley's, I always make a point to stop by Nance's at least once. I've never had a long wait here, however we do go to dinner relatively early (5-530 ish.) If you wait a little longer, you can get a table near the window with nice views of the marsh. Also, if you don't mind sitting in the bar area, which also has tables, you can get seated immediately. Yes, the bar area does allow smoking, but can you realistically expect a restaurant in South Carolina to not allow smoking in a bar? Personally, it doesn't bother me. I always get the crab legs and they are always very meaty and tasty. My aunt has tried the crab legs and she didn't like them, but I've never met a crab I didn't like. Even the little crab bodies attached to the legs had a ton of meat. It comes with a salad, which is weak, but really, who comes to a seafood restaurant expecting a salad of more than iceberg lettuce and a few tomatoes? Just dump some blue cheese on it and you're set. The complementary hush puppies were good, however, restaurant to restaurant, they're all the same to me. They just hold you over until the "real" food comes. However, the honey in the butter added a nice sweetness. My relatives love the fried flounder and also come back for it year to year.

Sad to say that tonight was not the first night a hair was found in the food here. Friends were here about a year ago and there was a small, black, curly hair in the soup. After not going for a year because of that experience, we decided to try it again. Everything started out good and then about halfway through my entree, there was a small black curly hair under the shrimp and fries. When we said something to the waiter, he said the people in the kitchen were supposed to have on hair nets, but you know how that works sometimes. So after only eating half of my entree because or the hair, I totally expected my meal would have been taken off of the approx $100 bill. But of course it was not. So I spoke with the manager and she kind of snickered when I told her what happened and said it was a little surprising because none of the cooks have hair. And I went on to tell her about how it happened about a year ago and she just said, well isn't that coincidental. She took my meal off and I decided to take my plate to her while walking out to show her, and she just laughed. Someone in my party said, so that's funny there is a hair in the food and the manager said, yea, it actually is. So it must be a common occurrence since the manager could only laugh.

We LOVE Nances!!!! The Steamed Oyster Pot is our favorite and whenever we are in Myrtle Beach, we head to Murrells Inlet and Nances. Prices are fine (Nothing better or worse than any other places) - obviously you can find better deals on a dozen oysters at a happy hour place, but the main courses make up for that. Can't wait to see you again next year !

I had the broiled seafood platter and everything on it was waaaay over cooked and rubbery. I would have sent it back but I would have had to have brought a sleeping bag in the amount of time it would have taken to re-cook it. So the service was painfully slow and the food was cooked to rubbery perfection but at least the prices were higher than Cheech and Chong.

Hush puppies and honey butter great. View beautiful of wetlands and birds. Broiled shrimp over cooked, broiled fish tasteless, oysters on seafood platter terrible. My children liked shrimp cocktail app. But did not finish broiled shrimp. My children always finish shrimp, not this time.

Dont waste your time or money! A wonder they can stay in business. Noisy, food not that good and will never be back.

I went here based on a rec from a nice local. The family was on vacation and looking for the best seafood in town. I think we ordered everything on the menu. Apparently the red snapper was good but my surf and turf was regrettable. I should of returned the lobster tail when I smelled it but I wasn't trying to be a hastle. Now 45 minutes later I wish I could get my money back because I will be lucky to keep this lobster tail down. I wont go back and I certainly don't recommend u take ur chances here.

My husband went to this place way back when I was barefoot and pregnant. Okay, maybe not either, but still...he went there on two or three solo business trips, and on later trips with me, he happily treated me to some tasty meals at Nance's. Yes, they were dang good. Service was sincere as well as sincerely Southern...tasty, tasty, tasty. Wel-l-l-l, after 10 or maybe 12 years since our last meal there, we on Sunday hit the place for a return trip. Positive: we got the early bird deal. (Those how know me gasp....we normally dine at 8 or after. On Sunday, we figured, hey, this is a late lunch...so we deigned to dine five-ish.) Many, many folks were there. Here's another pos: the hostess seated us at a window table. Okay, not a great view (considering the restaurant's crappy sheds we could see along with the several homes that used to not be there before the development-happy-developers who apparently disregarded the fragile marshes. Okay: the food. Blah iceberg salad. Nasty, gummy oysters. Tasteless, odd-looking (pale?) hushpuppies, fair baked potatoes. The deviled crab was so-so. My husband's platter included some scallops; he told me those were good. Otherwise, we both agreed that our years of waiting to return to Nance's, along with our normally-what-would-be-acceptable 30- or 40-minute wait to be seated, made us decide the waits were worthless. And I didn't even mention that I decided we should not go into the lounge for pre-dinner drinks because the place still allows cigarettes. Nice, eh?

Went to Nances July 20. We were seated immediately but waited too long for our food. No oysters. Thanks BP. I had scallops. Very little taste. Good hush puppies. I'd try it again, but after the local oysters come in.

I come here about once a month to get local oysters which are fantastic. They have a simple menu and most of the seafood is local, the fried platters are good as well. Simple decor simple menu and good local seafood makes this a great place to eat.

Nice location with a great view. As far as the food our party had everything from seafood to oysters to steak to chicken and even a burger and kids chicken fingers. Everyone in a party of 11 enjoyed there food. Service was good but may be a bit understaffed. Yeah paying $2.50 for a second basket of hush puppies is a bit tacky. But they are very good.

Sorry, but the free hush puppies were good the food we paid for was almost inedible but I was starving. I had the seafood platter, broiled and I think he just boiled, not broiled, it in unseasoned water and threw it on the plate because the bottom of the plate was full of hot water. I had to ask for Old Bay just to eat it because I was too hungry to leave and go somewhere else. By the way, you feel like you're sitting in a camp cafeteria along the water. Zero ambiance. Never again.
